Aleuritic Acid in Production
 
 
One of the most important derivates of lac is Aleuritic Acid. It is obtained from Shellac (Seedlac) by saponification. We produce the technical-grade of Aleuritic Acid, which has a purity of over 98% and is a white (almost colorless) powder.

Aleuritic Acid (9, 10, 16-Trihydroxy Palmitic Acid) is a unique acid containing three hydroxyl groups of which two are of adjacent carbon atoms.

USES AND APPLICATIONS
 
Aleuritic Acid is a critical component in the synthesis of macro-cyclic fragrance chemicals such as ambrettolide, iso-ambrettolide, civetone, dehydiocivetone, exaltone, glucose manoaleuritate and related lactones.
 
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
 
Aleuritic Acid is moderately soluble in hot water and crystallizes out on cooling the solution. It is also soluble in the lower alcohols such as methyl, ethyl and isopropyl alcohols.
